ELECTION NOTICE

Chief Steward  Aircraft Maintenance:  

With the close of nominations we have five (5)

eligible candidates accepting  nominations for Chief Steward  Aircraft Maintenance:

•    Robert Bishop - A&P Lead Technician

•    Jim Burley- A&P Technician

•    Frank Ganjehei - Sheet Metal Technician

•    Audrey Scates- Avionics Technician

•    Anthony Ybarra - A&P Lead Technician

Chief Steward  GSE and  Facility Maintenance:  

We have two  (2) eligible candidates accepting nominations for Chief Steward:

•    Dion Cornelious - Facilities Technician

•    Robert "Bobby" Douglass - GSE Technician

Safety Representative:  

We have three  (3) eligible candidates accepting  nominations for Safety Representative:

•    Robert "Bobby" Balleras - A&P Lead Technician

•    Robert Bixler- A&P Technician

•    Robert Gubran - A&P Lead Technician

All of these candidates meet the minimum requirements.

Voting will be by secret  ballot. Ballots will be mailed to your home address of record at Local 986 on October 5th and  in order  to be counted  must  be received prior  to the time of pickup at the P.O. Box no later than 0800 on October 30. 2017.

Any member  wishing to observe  the pickup and transfer of the ballots to the ballot count  at  LAX should  be at  the  LAX  Post Office located  at 9029  Airport  Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90009, no later than  0800 on October 30. 2017.

The election  results will be posted  on LAX union  bulletin  boards  and emailed  to all out station  Stewards within 24 hours after the count is completed.

Nominations for Chief Stewards and Flight Safety representative will open on Tuesday, September 5th, 2017 at 0800, two (2) for Aircraft Maintenance one (1) for GSE/Facility maintenance, and one (1) Flight Safety representative. The nomination period shall run for fourteen (14) consecutive days and close at 0800 on September 19th, 2017.

Eligibility for nomination of Flight Safety Representative:
Be a member in good standing.

Eligibility for nomination of Chief Steward will include:
1. Must be an active Shop Steward in good standing for a minimum of 2 years or have been a shop steward at sUA/sCO for a minimum 2 years
2. Must be able to work with Business Agent and Local 986 Representatives
3. Must comply with the IBT Constitution and By-Laws of Local 986
4. Serve as the spokesman of the Union at the worksite
5. Must make Union Business first priority over OT / FT and trade days
6. Must be willing to travel with little advanced notice to conduct Union Business on behalf of Local and International
7. Must be competent in the interpretation and application of the CBA
8. Must be willing to investigate grievances on your own time
9. Must know the grievance process and be able to present at all levels of grievance process including system board and arbitration hearings
10. Must be willing to testify at system board and arbitration hearings
11. Must be able to write appeals on behalf of the grievant
12. Must maintain accurate records of office activities i.e. grievances, LOA's, settlements, etc.
13. The Chief Steward shall establish a shift and day off pattern within the limits of the current Agreement.

You may self-nominate or you may nominate another member. Nominations must be in writing and received in the Chief Stewards office no later than 0800 September 19th, 2017.

If at the close of nominations there is only one (1) eligible nominee (two (2) for aircraft maintenance) that person shall be declared the victor by way of a white ballot. If there is more than one (1) eligible nominee (two (2) for aircraft maintenance) accepting the nomination, there "will be a mail out ballot conducted by the Local. The voting period shall be no less than thirty (30) days and "will close no sooner than October 19ili, 2017.
